today I want to present you a book that I read some years ago. I was quite fascinated by it at that time. „13 reasons why“ by Jay Asher is about a teenage girl who comitted suicide. The story is somehow told from two perspectives. For once there is Clay, he is a first person narrator and he is living in the present. Then there is Hannah, she is already dead by the time the novel begins. But she has left something. Seven tapes on which she gives 13 reasons explaining why she saw no other way but killing herself. Clay is listening to these tapes, realising that he is one of the reasons. In fact all of the 13 reasons are special persons. Persons who didn’t help Hannah and persons who bullied her. All these 13 persons now have to listen to the tapes, hearing Hannahs story, understanding the role they played.
When I read the book I really was fascinated by Hannahs charactere. Talking on these tapes she seemed so strong to me and then again she wasn’t. The book reveals an interessting view on suicide, trying to make people understand how somehody gets into a situation like that.
